DC is gearing up for a major new era in Gotham as Batman is renewed on September 3, 2025 with a brand new #1 issue. The Fresh Creative Team includes Eisner Award-winning author Matt Fraction (Hawkeye, Superman Friend Jimmy Olsen) and fan-favorite artist Jorge Zimenez (Batman), joined by colorist Tomeumory and letter Clayton Cowles.
This new run begins with a redesigned blue and grey bats, a refined new Batmobile, and a mix of brand new iconic characters: a bold update based on celebrating Batman’s timelessness.
“For me, Batman was the gateway to comics,” Fraction said. “This series is a chance to celebrate everything that makes your characters great, from new characters to classic villains, iconic vehicles to updated suits.”
“This is a dream project. I poured everything into shaping a new visual language for Batman,” said Jimenez, who is excited to lead Charge as a series artist.
Fractions summed it best: “Batman endures because it can be so much for so many people. We want this run to reflect that.”
Cover Gallery Shows Top Talents
Issue #1 is some of the comic’s biggest names, a standard cover of Jiménez ($4.99), a foil variant of Jiménez ($7.99), and an impressive slate in the Card Stock variation ($5.99 each). Andy Kubert (1:25) and David Aja (1:50) are also on the way in.
There is also a premium wraparound “DC Showcase” variant by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, and costs $24.99.
Collectors can also pick up a huge size special edition of Batman #1 in the oversized 11″ x 17″ format. Available in Standard CardStock ($14.99) and Foil Variant ($19.99) editions. Both feature Jiménez’s cover art.
Blind Bag Collectibles Add Mystery to the Mix
In addition to the excitement, DC is releasing Batman #1. Inside, fans will find one randomly selected foil variant cover from a mystery lineup of top tier artists such as Artgerm, Jorge Jiménez, Frank Quely, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Jim Lee.
A fresh storytelling approach
Fraction and Jiménez plan to start things with a series of connected but standalone stories that offer their respective adventures, tones and twists as they build towards a bigger vision. Expect diversity, surprises and wide range of lenses from Gotham.
Batman #1 will hit the shelf and digital platform on September 3, 2025.
