J. Michael Strachinsky is the author who made his name on television, films and even comics. Marvel fans probably know him best for his run with the great Spider-Man title in early Augs. After leaving Marvel for quite some time, Straczynski has returned to writing a variety of projects in recent years. Today, Marvel announced that the prolific writer has a new Spidey project with artist Pere Perez’s arrival this October. Titled Amazing Spider-Man: Torn, this 5th limited series revisits Peter Parker’s early college days at Empire State University.
Here’s how publishers have explained their limited series:
Go back to Peter’s college days at Empire State with Gwen, Harry, MJ and Flash! Spidey takes on the classic villain, but JMS and Pere showcase the Marvel universe’s aspects with a terrifying new villain echoing from the past to the present!
Spider-Editor Nick Lowe expressed his excitement for the project.
“JMS wrote some of my favourite amazing Spider-Man issues (Morne Fight! The strange co-stars’ one!). When he said he was interested in coming back to Spidey, I already landed on the bad side and twisted my ankle, but I’m fine. History?!?!?!?!!”
Artist Pere Perez shared:
I’m excited to work on this book. A longtime Spidey and JMS fan, this gig is a dream come true. I thought I enjoyed drawing action scenes for Spider-Man, but Joe writes such a great conversation scene for the supporting cast that Peter and I enjoy even more. In summary, this book is fun, exciting, moving, and has new villains too! ”
Amazing Spider-Man: Torn #1 will be available on October 8th with an Adam Hughes cover coming out.
