Mad Cave Studios and Tatsunoko Productions are collaborating for a new chapter in the Speed Racer saga, and the beat has all the details. Speed Racer X, debuting in September, is an eight-shot limited series focusing on masked vigilantes himself written by AIZNER and Grad Award winner Mark Russell, drawn by Nunoplati, colored by Giadamultio and lettered by Buddy Bodein.
The story begins with a bloody mysteries that quickly spun out of control, according to the summary.
In the aftermath of a brutal race, the speed racer regains consciousness behind the wheels, but the driver’s seat is smooth with blood, and he doesn’t remember how it got there. As he spirals into the mystery with global interests, we see a shadowy figure from afar: Racer X. In this fascinating rethink, Mark Russell and Nuno Praty cast a noir sheen into the sleek world of speed racers, as secrets, lies and race rivals clash.
Question #1 features variant covers by Francesco Tomaselli (DC vs. Vampire), David Raffente (Ultimate Spider-Man), Goat River Castle (Mr. Marvel), and Sean Galloway (Teen Titans Go).

“I’ve loved Speed Racer comics since I was a kid, but as an adult I feel that Racer X is the character I talk to most about,” Russell said in the announcement. “So I’m excited to be working in the universe I’ve loved for so long, but I can write characters with the mystique and gravity of Racer X. It’s a truly unique opportunity. I hope that readers will not only enjoy the new direction they are taking Racer X, but also feel the love and respect for the character.”
“After working on Gatchaman, it’s a great opportunity to work on another great Tatsunoko Creation, Racer X., and on top of that, I’ll be able to work with Great Mark Russell and work together again with the super cool Mad Cave Family!” he continued. “It was rewarding and fun to work on the dark side of the space of a speed racer. We usually bring a ‘noir’ feeling to a truly bright and shiny world, and it was a lot of fun to balance the two out.”
Speed Racer: Racer X#1 will be available on September 10th at digital and local comic shops.
