IDW has announced that the Twilight Zone will be coming to the comic shop from September 24th. The anthology series falls under IDW’s Horror Imprint IDW Dark, with all issues appearing in black and white just like the original TV series.
The first issue features a storyline by Dan Watters (Batman: Dark Pattern) and Morgan Beam (Swamp Thing: Twin Branch).
“The Twilight Zone is a genre in itself,” Watters said. “It’s a cultural Titan, a cultural Titan that reveals what science fiction, fantasy and horror can do for us, and the strangest North Star in the Sky. It reveals unpleasant truths about what’s in our own minds.
“I’ve been a fan of all horror for a long time, but a creepy story that slowly builds up what you were always the first in my mind. “Like being trapped in a fever dream or moving through liminal space, the story plays with a sense of cheating, absent, of things. This is the feeling that Dan captured beautifully in our story.
This is not the Twilight Zone series as Dynamite released one in 2014.
Tom Saiori, James Stocoe, Nate Powell and Francesco Francavila will next contribute to the series.
“I’ve been wanting to write a story about the Twilight Zone since I was a kid, but I wondered if that was something I could even do,” commented Scioli. “How do you create a classic? The Twilight Zone brought to television one of the established forms of comic books: sci-fi/horror anthology with literary ambitions, twisted endings and social conscience. It pushed the limits of what you can do in the medium of commercial television. Be humbled to submit for approval.”
“These comics are for people like me who wanted more episodes of the original series,” added Ellen Bourner, co-editor of the series. “We are filming silver screen nostalgia along with heart-shaking humanity. All details are love letters to television shows. From full black and white designs to connected cover sets to story style. Each issue serves as a unique door to the most engaging and heart-crossing dimensions as your guide.
