Next month, author Tim Sheely and artist Nicola Chizimesia’s new Godzilla #1 and colorist Francesco Segara will arrive on July 23rd. This is also the same week as SDCC. This new series marks the beginning of a new shared universe line of the title of IDW’s comic book known as the “Kai-sei era.” Today is a FOC for retailers, and the publisher has released a full letter preview for Godzilla #1.
As Jake Williams, the editor of IDW, discussed in our interview, the Kai Sei era features a new design for the Monster King, which he describes as “mean” and “animal” and features a clear jawline of “close to Thanos.”

This is where the Kai-sei era, IDW’s new Godzilla universe, begins!
In 1954 he experimented with a mysterious source of energy known as Kaisei, awakening Godzilla and many immortal Kaiju. Over the next few years, humanity was hit by almost constant monster attacks. Japan has begun to treat Kaiju like a natural disaster, but the American G-Force will fight, fight and fight while they understand that attempts to fight Godzilla will only exacerbate the threat.
The Americans have just discovered the ultimate tool in their battle with Kaiju. He is a young boy named Jasen, who has Godzilla powers. The mysterious Kaisei can be made available in the same vein as the Monster King, and this boy will either save the world or bring its fate.
