Before Trump, Richard Nixon was a theorist of conspiracy

Truth of Truth of Truth #29 by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds focuses on President Richard Nixon’s legacy in a conspiracy theory culture, including an 18.5 minute gap in the so-called Nixon tape. The missing recordings have played a myriad of roles in John F. Kennedy-related conspiracy theories that clutter the Infosphere. Gaps are considered abnormal, but they are also considered opportunities. They can offer a conspiratorial optional buffet. And with Nixon, everything is eaten at that buffet.

When Nixon took office, he installed multiple recording devices around the White House to keep records and details of his conversations – he was very paranoid and suspicious.

These recordings gained a whole new significance after members of his reelection campaign broke into the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate Hotel in 1972. As ABC New says:

The prosecutors were interested in a tape of arguments between Nixon and his chief of staff, HR ‘Bob’ Haldeman. This was arrested by the president’s secret White House records system shortly after a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters.

However, these tapes contain a mysterious 18.5 minute gap (patches of buzz and missing audio) midway through the recording, which took place on June 20, 1972, three days after the invasion.

When investigators discovered the gap, Nixon’s secretary Rose Mary Woods claimed it was her fault. She said she tried to answer the phone while she was transferring the tape, but instead of the stop button, she pressed the record button. However, her recollections mean that her error only explains the 4-minute missing.

White House Chief of Staff Alexander Heig believed that the rest of the gap was probably due to Nixon’s lack of mechanical efficiency, but he couldn’t say for certain whether it was intentional or merely incompetent. Others speculate that the elimination was carried out as a legal manipulation at the request of a lawyer.

One of Nixon’s instructions to his Chief of Staff recorded on tape, HR Haldeman, is speculated to be linked to the gap.

“Look, the problem is, this opens the whole, the whole pig bay. The President, ah, ah, don’t go into the details… don’t lie.

Many speculate that “the whole pig bay” is linked to the assassination of JFK, including Haldemann. This is an ominous clue that the CIA adjusted it. A missing 18.5 min, some claims, clarification, expand on this. According to Jefferson, for Politico:

“Haldemann suggested that Nixon used the phrase “all things in the Bay of Pigs” as a coded reference to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. It suggested that he had not written. Kennedy’s tragedy and which Helms desperately wanted to hide? ”

The fact that those who worked directly with Nixon believed at least to some extent in JFK’s theory of conspiracy should not necessarily be seen as evidence of actual conspiracy, but rather as evidence of the delusions that were the basis of Nixon’s administration.

What those tapes lack is probably not as important as the fact that they lack. Whether it’s just one minute or one minute, you can fill your imagination and what we want to be true. Even if the lost minutes are recovered, they will certainly accuse the majority of the population of being “fake.” In many cases, if the requested evidence is actually provided, it is rejected if it does not suit the person’s preconceptions.

Thank you to Mike Reigns (aka Poker & Polic) for supporting this article. We will hold a 24-hour live stream and raise funds for his expenses due to a hit-and-run accident. Our stream will begin on Saturday, May 31st at 6pm East and will include speakers and topics related to politics and conspiracy theories.
