Finally, Brass Sun, the clockwork punk fantasy series by Ian Esington and Inge Calviard, will return to the 2000 page in September 2025 with its sixth series.
The New Brass Sun Arc, entitled Pavane, returns to Wren’s story, returning to her mission to restore life to the dying brass sun at the heart of Worlds’ clockwork orrery. Not much is known about the new story arc at this stage. Other than that, there is time jump, and the youthful main character will be in his mid-20s.
Rebellion press release bullies:
“The new run at Brassun goes back to the story of Ren, who is now a little older, in her mid-twenties. After her experience, she retreated from the world.
Talking about his long absence and sudden return, series writer and co-creator Ian Esington explained:
“The first run of the Brass Sun was a huge success. People really took it in and started to doubt that they could repeat it on the next run. It was a really performance anxiety case!
“In the end (Inj culbard) and I continued to do other things, Brass Sunreiro for years. But about 18 months ago my teenage daughter read it all and was troubled by the fact that she wasn’t hanging in the range anymore. Ha!”
He adds,
“It’s great to work with Ian again. I forgot how much laughable it was. I started talking about the story and script and then I was debating whether we could build a submarine out of tofu.
Brassun debuted in 2012 on the British weekly anthology page. It was run in five series after the end of the 2018 Engine Summer Ark, before an extended break. The first three series were collected in the 2014 Deluxe Hardcover edition, and the Rebellion reissued the first arc with a flop of the US format in the same year. The fourth and fifth arcs, Motorhead (PROG 1950-1959) and Engine Summer (Prog 2061-2072), remained reclaimed, but the original issue digital edition is available in the 2000 ad webshop for avid fans.
In 2014, the Brass Sun Hardcover was released, collecting the first three-storey arc.
During the extended hiatus, both co-creators remain busy. Series artist Ind Culbard worked with Dan Abnett to create a procedural brink of highly popular and acclaimed science fiction. Meanwhile, Ian Esington has released the new series Scarlet Trace, Helium (both frequently have artistic collaborator D’Israeli) and the Devil Continuation of the Tiernentre Barion and the Eastern Front Classic 2000 Advertising Series.
