Riding high from the fame of his new Marvel rival, Jeff the Land Shark will return to the store this week with his first trade paperback edition! It’s Jeff! Jeff Barth is where the Marvel universe meets funny Sunday pages through the eyes of our favorite precocious pets. Marvel Comics’ 2021 creative overhaul of webcomic offerings began with a number of newly debuted titles, and is a creative overhaul to digital, exclusive, vertical scrolling infinity comics. Updated weekly and quick standout among the crowd is Jeff! The series discovers the unofficial pet mascot for Kelly Thompson’s run set at Center Stage, followed by Babyland Shark’s daily life and found his place in Marvel universe. Just like Nao Fuji’s Marvel Meow, it’s Jeff! It provided a short, mostly standalone story of heartfelt mischievous, with little or no conversation (single, “Jeffrey!” is the common reserve in many early issues). Infinity Comic has proven to be extremely popular, which led to Jeff’s nearly 30 installments! It’s Jeff when it’s re-released in print across two issues! #1 And that’s Jeff! Jeff Vess #1.
Since then, the beloved Land Shark Star has been steadily rising ever since. When you jump from the Infinity Comics format to the first problem of printing, it’s Jeff! The team returned to another Jeff Romp in the anthology series Extreme Venomverse #5. The story of Symbiote-Splattered later came from one shot Venom War: It’s Jeff! #1. All of these stories are now collected in a single paperback edition. It’s Jeff! Jeff Bath.
Why can’t you love him?

I’ll admit there’s a small part of me that likes Jeff’s style! The later stories are like Venoverse and the War of Poison. That’s a minor complaint, but I think that mostly text-free Infinity comic stories are a fun new take on classic comic strip conventions. Later stories, designed for the print question format, make a noticeable difference in the panel, the fundamental aspect of comic storytelling. It’s not a bad change, and other structural changes about dialogue are important to telling a story that is complex enough to extend across the whole issue. The original is Jeff! The shorts are pretty much like Snoopy’s comics, but I think part of me is always biased towards that form of Jeff.
If that’s not said enough, then all Jeff stories of Thompson and Grihill are treats. Thompson’s mind towards comedy and Grihill’s signature style makes it a blend of cute, entertaining casual reads that anyone can enjoy. At the same time, cameos and homage are scattered throughout the collection. I’m either relaxing in the pool where Jungrey posed like a cover of the creepy X-Men #101, or reading a collaboration with Grihill’s Marikotamaki, Spider-Man & Venom. And for fans who have followed Jeff since his days with the West Coast Avengers, Jeff’s Venom War story features an almost complete reunion of Bishop Kate’s roster.

He was already a fun new character for the West Coast Avengers, but slight modifications to his design from Grihill became the definitive baseline for Jeff’s appearance to move forward. Together, Thompson and Grihill have made Jeff a worthy iconic character to appear on your rival roster, and an iconic character to appear in Jeff’s first printed, ongoing comics. That’s right, Thompson’s No. 5 Jeff the Land Shark miniseries and new artist gems will begin this June, and it’s Jeff! Jeff Bath is the perfect primer.
