Godzilla vs Spiderman #1 review

After reading Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1, it’s safe to say that writer Joe Kelly has a lot of fun with Marvel (he also told me about the AIPT Comics Podcast). We’ve seen it with the amazing Spider-Man, but we have a lot of fun this week with Godzilla vs Spider-Man #1! This is a throwback story with Spider-Man, who newly owns Symbiote Suit, and a love triangle between Black Cat, MJ and Peter.

You will soon find that there is a great art from Nick Bradshaw in this issue. Details (look at the background), dynamic (background and foreground play well), and a simpler layout to the face that leaves each panel worthy of a nearly complete page splash. I read that the Ministry of Finance version with extra-sized pages is required.

When it comes to the story, it’s clear that Kelly and editor Nick Lowe are very enjoyable. Lowe in particular inserts notes from many editors. By setting the story, Kelly can play with a different era of Spider-Man who doesn’t realize that Symbiotte is a living alien with weaknesses. Fans will enjoy the dynamics of MJ and Black Cat.

Oh, and fans of thought balloons will enjoy Spider-Man’s thoughts. It gives the book a backdrop vibe and reminds me of how the comics were written.

About Godzilla, Kelly and Bradshaw discover a clever hook in this issue. The Green Beast customary monster is misunderstood and ultimately good, as pointed out in a well-written way in Knull’s cutaway. He is a monster that rises when cancer comes to the world, and that cancer is a surprising twist. The fact that this problem ends on a cliff where you want more is a testament to the big swing a one-shot takes.

This is all about fun and behavior, so any complaints you may have are minor. The reason I couldn’t get the logic was how symbionts grow, perhaps because they fed Godzilla’s energy? There’s also the issue of Godzilla leveling building, but I’m getting a pass to leave at the end, but what are you going to do to handcuff a 50-storey lizard?

Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 is a delightful explosion of retro Spidey Charm, Kaiju Chaos and artistic sights. Joe Kelly and Nick Bradshaw create stories that feel nostalgic and bold. While some small logic leap comes with territory, the pure energy, humor and heartfelt pleasure of this cartoon will make it an absolutely essential read for fans of both icons.

Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 is a fun explosion of retro Spidey charms, Kaiju Kaos and artistic spectacles, with Joe Kelly and Nick Bradshaw creating a nostalgic and bold storyline. Nick Bradshaw’s highly detailed and dynamic art makes almost every panel feel worthy of a splash page.

Joe Kelly captures the tone of fun, throwback with clever dialogue, thought balloons (fun editor’s notes by Lowe).

Godzilla’s twist adds incredible depth and makes the one-shot feel bigger than expected.

Like the accidental forgiveness of Symbiote’s size shift and Godzilla’s destruction, small logic gaps can separate Nitpicky readers from the story.
