As we first reported on K-ComicsBeat, IDW and Webtoon.com are collaborating to publish some of IDW’s biggest hits in vertical scrolling (Webtoon) format. We’ve been chatting a bit about this on the back channel. We have seen all sorts of partnerships between US comic publishers and various VSC platforms, including original content in Wayne Family Adventure, format, and adapting existing materials is another way for already popular materials to reach new audiences.
Several new comics were released today at 8pm (ET/5pm) and are an already announced memoir of Godzilla’s webtoon adaptation, unnatural disasters, beloved under the trees no one sees, an AIZNER Award-winning memoir George called our enemy.
Also debut this afternoon: a newly reformatted Webcomic version of Fave Locke & Key, which has won the beloved series Sonic the Hedgehog and Eisner. In particular, the lineup includes two licensed titles, suggesting that more collaborations are possible.
When the partnership was first announced, executives from both companies were enthusiastic.
“Webtoon Entertainment’s Global Webtoon” said: “Webtoon Entertainment’s global webtoon. “This partnership with IDW Publishing is an exciting step to expanding our diverse library and connecting more fans with loving stories in a whole new way.”
“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Davidi Jonas, CEO and publisher of IDW Publishing. “We are excited to work with such an innovative platform and look forward to how our story resonates with the global community of Webtoon. This collaboration is an important part of our mission to bring comics to our fans in a creative and accessible way.”

Under the tree
Please do not. murder. Local people. This is the cardinal urile of Samantha Strong, a small town serial killer, a good citizen and an adorable brown bear. After all, when you’ve worked just as hard as Sam to build a cozy life and prosperous business in a community surrounded by friendly animal people, warm decorations, the aroma of cedar trees and freshly baked apple pie, the last thing you want is to disrupt the peace. Therefore, we can imagine her digging when one of Woodbrook’s own personal encounters a terrifyingly mystical ending. And we don’t blame the town for doing what’s necessary to hunt down her rivals before she (literally) starts barking the wrong tree. Cute creatures are unaffected by crime in this original graphic novel debut by author-artist Patrick Horvas.
Locke & Key
Locke & Key tells a vast story of magic and family, heritage and sadness, good and evil. The acclaimed suspense novelist and New York Times bestselling author Joe Hill (Fireman, Heart-shaped Box), created a fascinating story of dark fantasy and wonders, like the doors of a key house, with the incredible artwork of Gabriel Rodriguez.
They called us enemies
George Takei captured the hearts and hearts of the world with his fascinating stage presence and an outspoken commitment to equal rights. But long before he encouraged the new frontier in Star Trek, he wakes up as a four-year-old boy to find his birth country in war with his father, and his whole family is forced from his home into an uncertain future. In a stunning graphic memoir, Takei revisits his unforgettable childhood in American concentration camps as one of more than 100,000 Japanese-Americans imprisoned by the US government during World War II. Experience the American icon and the powers that shape America itself in this fascinating story of courage, nation, loyalty and love.
