Anyone who has seen Peacemaker knows that skewers DC heroes or pop culture can’t be suppressed. Peacemaker scorns Batman for not killing his enemies, claiming that Aquaman is doing unspeakable things to fish, and continues to rant about people he thinks are actually fake people who are real people. Peacemaker Presents: Vigilante/Eagly Double Function #2 continues that trend and finds some new targets.
The first is the transformer from Chapter 2 of “F Talk Time” by Tim Seeley and Mitch Gerad. Vigilante believes that in a completely misguided quest to “save” Peacemaker, a supervillain known as the controller is transforming the car into a robotic minions. It’s a strange leap in logic, and it doesn’t make sense remotely, but the way Seely writes it brings a lot of laughs (including some weird moments in the library).
The reason this series continues to be hilarious is the artwork from Gerads. Not only does he manage to capture some hilarious expressions, he also takes the reader into Adrian Chase’s mind…and, as you would expect, it’s completely confused. But that chaos takes the form of a mille-feed version of people, including hobos, robots and Adrian himself. The ability to balance this with ultra-violent behavior is a testament to his talent.
The other half of Peacemaker features the Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature #2 with the flight passengers he took for a vacation he was lured with mystical forces. Again, there are immense vulgar levels on display that will shock even the most enhanced readers. It’s as if Rex Ogle is testing what he can escape from. The same applies to the art teams of Matteo Lolli and John Kaliz. He offers an unpleasant gag that includes a Peacemaker superhero costume and another DC icon.
What really sells hilarious is a vigilante journal, offering some helpful tips on how to become a superhero. Not only does it feel like something he writes, it’s surprisingly realistic, especially since Freddie Stroma, who plays a vigilante at Peacemaker, actually wrote it. Tips on getting a clerk for burning grocery clerks or getting a clerk for getting a clerk for getting a dress repaired is the advice you’d expect from a powerful hero. After all, not all superheroes can have Batman cash or Superman immortality, right?
Peacemaker Presents: Vigilante/Eaglee Double Function #2 continues to be a grumpy joy, pushing the envelope every turn. Become more than a fan who makes tide peace while waiting for the show’s return, or at least making sure you don’t look at the DC Universe the same way.
