Mastermind #1, Steven Thompson’s Cover A
When an ambitious and problematic video game programmer dares to audition for a secret society in the gaming/tech industry made up of cutthroat, the genius mastermind finds himself in a real-life puzzle gauntlet that will soon smash. Are they smart enough to survive the mystical game of masterminds?
Kaplan said: “We live in a world of fast moving cutthroats where rules have changed. You can’t expect to work from 9 to 5, become a good person, become a good person and move on. For you, you have to prove your intelligence, Hassan.
Thompson, who previously worked in Kaplan, Rosha and Dark Horse’s Midnight: Shadow, said, “As an artist, I know that big technology is poised to eat the world and automate creativity. The mastermind is here to provide a second roll of dice and an opportunity to put it all in danger for a life of dreams.”
Masterminds #1 will be on sale at Comic Bookstore on August 27, 2025 for $4.99. In addition to the Thompson main cover, there are variations from Aaron Campbell (John Constantine: Hellblazer: Dead in America) and Bjorn Barends (The Witcher: The Bear and the Butterfly). You can also check out more art in the teaser trailer released yesterday.
