Last year, Joe Quesada unveiled Amazing Comics, a new imprint for Mad Cave Studios and Dupuis. The first title to be announced was William Shakespeare’s new take, Prophet, a disciple. It was co-written by Charles Dorfman, written as Quesada Art, coloured by Richard Isanob and co-written by Wade von Growbagger, written by Joe Caramana. Now marking Shakespeare’s Day (falling on his estimated birthday on April 23, 1564), the surprising thing revealed to the disciple that it would be the first undiscovered title, the entire column of comics based on the work of the disciple.
Quesada directs each title with Dorfman, a British filmmaker and newcomer and comics newcomer. The latter states, “Some of the surprising comic undiscovered titles are directly inspired by Shakespeare’s original plays, with others taking more unexpected passes. They always remain true to the timeless core themes. They are placed in our reality – recognizable, but rethinking through various genres and times.”
Quesada commented: “Shakespeare’s themes allow us to explore those truths in a thrilling, unexpected, emotionally realistic way, just as he first put Quill on paper, and by rethinking his work through a modern lens, of what we already live in. These are stories of the discovery and rediscovery of fantastical imagination based on familiarity.”
Disciple #1
He says, “The stories discovered in the future range from genres such as science fiction, horror, hard-boiled crime fiction, war, fantasy, and more. These stories have been grounded in the same world, for centuries, and even know – we know – but we all know – and we are all icy, we are all icy, we are even icy, we are, and we are, even ice. We join the fold – and soon, the projects they bring to life.”
The author/artist stated, “Shakespeare was the original master of spectacle and soul. He was blood, betrayal, desire, ambition and of course heroism.
The release date for Disciple #1 remains unplanned at the time of writing. The press release promotes some of the creators we can expect to see in Amazing’s comics, but it’s unclear which ones are in the undiscovered books. Judd (dark wind, echo). Find out if Ennis and Ribic will co-create a sci-fi version of King Lear (or something like that) in the coming months.
