One of the books that blew the door out of the hinge last year was Patrick Horvers under a tree that no one sees, but now IDW gives us sneak peeks under a tree that no one sees.
The sequel to issue 6 takes place almost ten years after the stunning, bloody event of the first hit series.
Samantha, a bloody brown bear, escapes her crime and now she is the only serial killer in town, returning to Woodbrook, the seemingly ideal suburban suburb. But times change, and Samantha quickly discovers that there is no secret in the age of the internet…and those who have lost their loved ones to her dark temptation are still looking for justice. Furthermore, Samantha’s story of sinister origins is revealed as the sequel revisits what happened after her first murder.
“I really didn’t want to leave everything hanging in case I didn’t have the opportunity to do it anymore, so I brought the story closer, but intentionally left it wide open just in case,” Horvath told THR. “When the first couple’s problem started picking up steam, IDW asked if I wanted to do more. And let them know that I already had quite a few ideas as to where I could actually go next.”
Screen Rant reported that “six issues under the tree combined to sell more than 180,000 issues,” said the screen Rant. (See reviews below The Trees vol 1 and an interview with Horvath)
“We are extremely excited to return to the quaint town of Woodbrook to continue the story of our psychopath bear, Samantha Strong,” continued Horvas in a statement. “I’m constantly blown away by the reaction to my first book. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would catch a huge wave spreading across other countries and languages.
So let’s delight your horvath-heads! Some of the interior art, peaking on the cover of Horvath and paying homage to the film, rave reviews creator Tony Freak (Strey Dogs), return of storybook variations, artist Riley Rossmo (The Moon chases us) made his debut, news from artists Elizabeth Beals and Dungeons & Dragons and news from artist Elizabeth Beals and artist Elizabeth Beals and artists Plus: variant cover of the debut issue by industry icon Skottie Young (I hate Fairyland).
Under the Tree No One Sees: Spring Ritual #1 (6) is on sale on July 9, 2025, with a focus deadline of June 2, 2025.
