Viral hit, Vol. 1

Hobin is a self-proclaimed “loser.” As the story begins, he is involuntarily conscripted for a classmate’s Newtube video. This gives him a unique perspective on the popular newtuberage company. They present themselves as a charismatic host, but he knows the ugly truths that are revealed when the live stream is turned off. But nonetheless, Hobin cannot help himself from jealous of his fame and the financial success that comes with it.

In fact, Hobin is struggling quite desperately when it comes to money. His mother is in the hospital and will not be discharged. And while his New Twover classmates may be washed away with cash, Hobin struggles to achieve his goals while paying for his mother’s medical bills. While working part-time burger flipping jobs at McDonuld’s, Hobin starts to run numbers and understand the disparity in his destiny compared to his successful classmates.

The situation comes to mind after Hobin prepares a meal for one of his classmates, Snapper. He comes to Hobin’s apartment and broadcasts the game stream. This allows the snapper to use Hobin’s mother’s bank account (the only way for minors to secure payments from NewTube). However, when Hobin travels to Snapper for ramen and spills them, the two begin to argue. This quickly escalates into a violent food fight.

The next day, Hobin wakes up injured and abused. But perhaps more importantly, he also knows he has become a viral internet celebrity for the night. Unknown at the time, Snapper and Hobin continued their live stream as the duo fought each other. And in just a few hours, the video has accumulated millions of viewers and comments from viewers around the world.

Classmates and class war

Every time a video appears, NewTube is rewarded. And while the Snappers may have something to lose in terms of their social status in their school, Hobin “already was a loser”, he has nothing to lose…and there’s plenty of money to win.

Let’s face it: the need to make money can lead to strange bed fellows. This proves true for Hobin, who is sure to join forces with the Snapper.

But as anyone trying to create internet content knows, it is trying to attract the attention of not only old live streams but also the residents of World Wide Web. Will exploiting the power of losers and bullies pay off for Hobin? If so, could he ultimately oust his family from the debilitating medical debt?

Naturally, Hobin sets out to achieve his goals by watching more newtubes. There he finds a mysterious streamer wearing a rooster mask while offering tips for combat. What makes the mystery worse is the fact that the streamer operates under a handle that seems meaningless and therefore receives the next view. But nonetheless, Hobin finds streamer advice to be invaluable.
