After directing Disney+ Special Werewolf in the Night, pun-loving composer and filmmaker Michael Jacccino will make his comic book debut this July with a new one-shot starring Marvel resident Lycanthrope. Featuring art by David Messina (Ultimate Spider-Man), The Comic entitled Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise, opposes nominal Werewolf Jack Russell, other than Dracula. It also features the backup story of Jason Loo, author of the ongoing Werewolf by Night: Red Band, “Celebrating a variety of bonus materials to celebrate the history and future of characters.”

Giacchino told Entertainment Weekly: “In a way, it could be a lost story from the original (1972-77) run. It’s Dracula who tracked him down to revenge for being together in the comics. He teases the presence of another character.

He thought of Jack’s Battle as a “rigged group of vampires doing bad things,” when he was developing the Disney+ Special, but here Dracula’s presence was inspired by Marvel’s love for horror comics in the ’70s, and “I love monster stories.”

He said, “I want to do something with the story we created for TV, but it’s moving forward with its own thing, and isn’t too much of a slot on what’s happening in Jack’s life right now in the world of Marvel (comics). As to whether another Disney+ special thing actually happens when Jack Russell’s version of False Garcia Vernal actually occurs, he admitted that streaming is facing, saying, “I think we’re waiting for the industry to settle into new norms at this point before we know what to do at this point.”

When asked about writing more comics in the future, he answers. He points out that his approach with Messina is his approach to art, making the film more cinematic than the previous Marvel horror comics. Incidentally, Messina previously created art for another property, Giacino. That is, it’s a tie-in comic for the 2009 Star Trek films, Star Trek: Countdown and Star Trek: Nero.

Blood Moon Rise will be released on July 30th, shortly after the character’s current (and second) ongoing series, Jason Loo and Sergio Davila’s Werewolf By Night: Red Band. It will end with issue 10 on May 28th.
