Beltramini, the author of Heartbreak Hotel, writes and translates books and comics. Since 2015, she has translated the entire work of Crepax into English for Fantagraphies. Her previous works include Goodbye to the Comics Last: Homage to Jeff Buckley (Edizioni BD 2019), Murder Ballad (Mondadori Oscar Ink 2021), and Anna with Green Hair (Il Battello a Vapore 2022), and her 2008 bestseller, 101 to do on Meman with at least one lifetime.

“The Heartbreak Hotel is the book I’ve always wanted to write,” Beltramini said in a press release. “Every trauma I have experienced so far, every tear shed over every story I gave to my heart, an echo of my past and present life, and all my love, I always found one of the same story, so we are nata komatsu. Published by Maverick, we jumped for joy!

Innocente said, “Four teenagers, four wounded hearts, four intertwined stories: Hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades. Over the past year, Mikol and I have worked tirelessly at the Heartbreak Hotel.

Innocente’s past works include the 2019 comic book adaptation of the 2020 Great Wizard of Oz and the 2020 graphic novel Girotondo, written by Sergio Rossi, who won the Andersen Award for Best Comic Book in 2021. Boscarato Award for Best Comic Book for Young Audiences in 2022.

Read the official Heartbreak Hotel description below:

Have you ever wanted to disappear after someone broke your heart?

Heartbreak Hotel knows exactly how you feel and will do anything to pamper your illusions. But what is the expiration date for your dream? And when you have to return to reality, who will help you undo fragments of your mind?

“We’re so happy to be able to bring the Heartbreak Hotel to the Maverick family,” said Lauren Hitzhusen, senior editor at Maverick. “This is a book that resonates with young adult readers, especially those experiencing their first heartbreak. It’s a unique, moving and magical story about learning to break your heart and learn to love yourself and your passion again.

This book can be pre-ordered for $14.99 at locations where the book is sold, such as Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Bookshop.
