This Wednesday, ahead of the release of Al Ewing and Carlos Gomez’s all-new Venom #5, Marvel Comics chose to disclose the identity of the new host of the symbiotics before the issue’s release hits the comic book store. We’ll continue with spoilers for all readers after the jump, so if you want to wait until you read and find the comic, there’s a warning to leave now.
The new host’s identity was hinted at by the series afterwards, prior to the initial issue of being Luke Cage, Rick Jones, Robbie Robertson, or Madame Musk, with Mary Jane Watson’s current partner Paul Rabin being nothing but Dylan Brock’s Foster Mother Helselves.

That’s right, Spider-Man’s longtime love interest and one of the first to terrify Venom in the comics, MJ Watson was the host of the symbiotics who was linked to Peter Parker, Eddie Brock and Dylan since last year’s War of Crossover Events. Ewing comments, “We hooked readers in with the big mystery – albeit with a little misdirection throw in – but now the cat’s out of the bag, we can really get into the unlikely interaction of MJ and Venom. Unlike previous hosts, these two aren’t together by choice, but their odd-couple energy makes for a bubbled pot of old-school soap opera thrills. If you’ve enjoyed this lighter take on Venom, there’s a lot more on the way – and some dark directions to come.”
MJ won the jackpot mantle in 2023’s Amazing Spider-Man #31, and is the host of Symbiote, making it a massacre of Venom’s longtime nemesis in Spider-Gwen’s universe, but I don’t think he’s seen him approach anything with a brave taste. Readers can discover how unexpected unions occurred when an unexpected union was issued on May 7th. Meanwhile, we’ll check out the newly revealed spoiler variant covers of Martín Cóccolo and Clayton Crain for Wednesday’s issue, and Lucas Werneck spoiler variant #6:6:
Issue #5 Spoiler Variant Cover by Martín Cóccolo
Issue #5 Surprise Suspicious Variant Cover by Clayton Crane
Issue #6 Spoiler Variant Cover by Lucas Werneck
The fifth issue of Crane’s surprise cover is a free release from Comic Shop. It will be used alongside Gomez’s art on the final page (above) as a variant of the second printing of the comic.
