March 27, 2025 – Timing Women’s History Month, Quento Comics, a pioneering Filipino-American comic book publisher, is partnering with Clover Press for a Kickstarter campaign to publish the second volume of Harya, a young adult urban fantasy graphic novel inspired by Filipino theology. Written by Kaitlyn Fajilan, Art by Susan Bin and Vic Kaedo, Color by Liz Buenaventura, and by Kiera Sibal, Masks from Haryya Volume 2, edited by Ariel Gioveranos: Forgotten Past echoes became the power of Filipino-American Teen Rays Marisol Rays, who she inherited from her great grandmother. Deluxe Hardcover is available on Kickstarter.

“Quent Comics is rooted in the Filipino word Kwento and means “story,” said Cecilia Lim, co-founder and CEO of Kwento Comics. “We believe in the transformative power of storytelling to inspire, empower and connect communities around the world. Every story we tell, every panel we create, every character we bring to life reflects our mission.

As darkness rises and family secrets uncover, Haryan Mask: Echo of the Forgotten Past, where fans thrust deep into the soul of ancient Philippine mythology, and ominous powers and paths begin to intertwines. Suffering from fragmented memories, Isla fights time to unearth her buried past and protect the mask’s new heir. Meanwhile, Mari is working with her new powers and an awakening that thrusts her into unconditional territory. Deep in the forest, the activities of evil organizations raise doubt as they are surfaced with forbidden rituals and whispers of monster creatures. Hariya’s Mask: Forgotten Past Echo is available as a 192-page deluxe hardcover via Kickstarter.

“In this latest volume, Mali’s emotional journey changes quite a bit. As someone who has always maintained a very guarded front, Mali begins to emerge from her coco under Bella’s guidance,” explains writer Caitlin Fazilan. “Slowly, her internal perspective shifts from worrying about what she does hurt people, to believe that exploiting her ‘true’ self allows her to help. She hopes to be able to make real friendships. The formation of this new identity can certainly bring about the culming plating that sets us up later in this arc.

Kwento Comics was founded by mother-daughter teams Cecilia and Waverley Lim. He was inspired to create a solution to the lack of Asian American representation in the media. When launching a company, their goal is to guide Asian female characters on the page, while also highlighting talented Asian female artists and writers in a male-dominated industry. With the release of Kwento Comics’ second graphic novel, the company cements its reputation as a source of empowerment and inspiration for women in art around the world.

“Being able to see Asian women at the forefront of creative and entrepreneurial efforts, not only has it been a truly special and rewarding experience working with all the women creative teams.” “It’s empowering to know that you don’t have to ask for a table seat when you can make your own. We deserve to see ourselves in every space, including graphic novels, which are great ways to visually display and immerse mythical audiences from the Philippine islands.

“I’m so happy to continue masking the Harya series of masks series at Clover Press,” said Hank Canaltz, publisher of Clover Press. “The women at Quento tell such persuasive stories, and those who were soaked in mythology. We all grew up hearing these stories from our parents.
