Magnetic Press is a small press focused on bringing some of the best European cartoons to the US. Many nominations have been made in pursuit of the first victory last year in the Best Publication Design of Dracula and Frankenstein box sets by George Beth, and has been punched longer than the weight on the Comic Awards circuit. And last year they celebrated their 10th anniversary. Under all founder and publisher Mike Kennedy, the excellent taste of the comic has guided the imprint all along.
Now with more integrated news, Magnetic will team up with ONI Press to co-brand upcoming releases, with releases expected this fall. Both publishers are a team that makes a lot of sense as they are owned by Polarity, a media company owned by David Steward II, who owns Lion Forge Entertainment.
Magnetic Titles will work with ONI for distribution: Simon & Schuster for Books, Diamond and Lunar for Comics Shops. Upcoming Magnetic titles will also receive additional marketing, sales and manufacturing support from the ONI team.
“ONI and Magnetic have been sister companies for over five years. This new partnership allows us to provide the best world of both Magnetic world-class graphic novels and games. “Together, we look forward to offering our readers a wider selection of compelling stories and artwork. The Magnetic Press Line continues to defend its unique editing vision, benefiting from ONI Press’s established distribution and marketing channels.”
“There are few American publishers that match the exceptional roster of international talent that Mike Kennedy brought to English audiences under the Magnetic Press Banner. As both colleagues and fans, we see Magnetic has strategically expanded its strategically successful crowdfunding and tabletop gaming initiatives, including the past few years. “Now, Magnetic’s award-winning catalogue reaches critical mass with a swarm of exciting new titles for 2025, we are proud to be able to expand our reach more than ever before, expanding and supporting some of the most beautifully packaged graphic novels in the industry today.”
Magnetic was founded by Kennedy in 2014 after leaving Archaia and quickly became an early adaptor by bringing the best European cartoons to the US. Notable releases include Love: Tiger from Bremoud and Bertolucci, Ghost of Gaudi by Juan Torres, Jazz Maynard by Roger and Laure, Carbon & Silicon by Matthew Bablett, and Frontier by Guillaume Singerin. At this year’s Angoulême Festival, Magnetic announced an exclusive first look partnership with the renowned French design studio label 619. They also branched out into role-playing and tabletop games.
