Dark Horse Comics has announced the Texarcanum, which will be released this summer in July 2025. Monfette wrote with the art of Martos Colors by Patricio Delpeche and the letter from Michael Heisler.
“Avery may wear a cowboy hat and drive a pickup to talk to the dry wits of Central American Noir PIs, but he travels through the pockets of culture and folklore that are rarely explored, but through the very definition of this country,” Monfett said. “American fears are too often defined by Western European fears, such as vampires, werewolves, and Victorian ghosts. The truth is that this country is made up of communities that together with them have brought their own folk tales.”
So what is Texal Canum about?
America is a melting pot for the unknown. Ghosts and gods, angels and demons, horror stories, tall people traveled from all over the world to clash in the countryside centre. When a feud of lands from centuries ago escalates supernaturally, when two fighting families threaten the apocalypse of the low country, only Bell can unearth the truth. Texarcanum meets Yellowstone, while Elmore Leonard meets horror noir Stephen King in the mysterious Midwest.
Monfett continued. “I created Texal Canum as a way to mash unfamiliar myths in the American Heartland sandbox. Midnight Drive has a much more diverse background than what I can use to tell the kind of storytelling genre I’ve never actually seen.
