First released in the ’70s, Marvel brought the “Great Size” title last year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the format. Marvel has been successful in continuing to publish huge sizes, including the upcoming giant size X-Men events. Today, the publisher has released details of the incredible Spider-Man #1 in a massive size, a special one-shot that is said to “connect the talents of the mega to tell a variety of stories that span Marvel mythology,” including authors Al Uwing, Chip Zudarski, and in particular Kevin Smith.
As many people know at this point, filmmaker and podcaster Kevin Smith is an embarrassing comic fan and had the opportunity to soak up the toe writing comics for years, celebrating the title of Daredevil under the Marvel Knights imprint along with the Guardian Devil storyline. Since then, he has written comics for other publishers for many years, launching his own secret stash press imprint under the Dark Horse. However, it took quite a while since Smith wrote for Marvel in almost 20 years. I’m sure anyone still waiting for him to finish Daredevil/Bullseye is still there: Target. Something strange happened. Will Daredevil/Bullseye end, or are you watching Batman: Bellicosity, Smith’s Batman sequel: The Widening Gyre Miniseries?
For this incredible Spider-Man one-shot of this huge size, Smith will work with artist Giuseppe Kamunko to collaborate on the story, including Webslinger and the Fantastic Four. Meanwhile, writer Al Ewing and artist Mark Buckingham “wield a decade-long adventure with Spider-Man and some of his best friends.” The final story, written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Cafu, clearly introduces a brand new character that Marvel Teases will play a major role in the future.
Spider-Editor Nick Lowe promoted one-shot:
“Everyone says this big size X-Men and says a huge size X-Men,” says Nick Lowe of Spider-Editor. “And I’m tired of it, so we’ve put together some of the coolest, huge size books ever.”
“Kevin Smith and Giuseppe Camunkory spin instant classics!
The incredible Spider-Man, in a huge size, will be featured in a cover drawn by Greg Capro and arrive at the comic shop on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025.
