Joseph Montagne has been selected as VP and Publisher of Abrams Comicarts Division, PW reports. Previously associate publisher and VP, Montagne will oversee graphic novels and manga output from the imprint. He joined Abramscomic Arts when it was founded in 2023 as a division that incorporated most of Abrams Comics Publishing. Montagne previously joined French and Belgian media and participated in Abrams’ parent company, Global Publishing.

Though not mentioned in the PW story, Rodolhulachat, chosen as head of Abrams Comicart, is no longer associated with the line at the time of release, but Beat learned.

Montagne reports to Mary McCubenny, president and CEO of Abrams. Mary McAvenny said, “Joseph’s extraordinary skill set and enterprising approach make him an ideal leader for Abrams Comicart. His promotion is perfectly in line with his long-term strategy to expand and innovate within this dynamic sector. Under his leadership, we are confident that Abrams Comicart will flourish and set new standards in the industry.”

“It’s a real honor and it’s a dream to step into this role and lead Abrams’ Comic Cart in such an exciting time… Montagne said in his statement.

Excitement seems guaranteed. In addition to launching the Kana Manga Line, under a new organization where Comicarts will become its own division along with books for adults and children, Abrams has released well-received books such as The Road Graphic Novel and a draft of Rick Parker. They are also home to Megascope’s imprint. It shines a spotlight on science fiction/F books by authors of color. It’s true that books are imprinted by LGBTQ. Frank Miller presents the line. And the upcoming The Avengers in the Veracity Trap by Chip Kid and Michael Cho! A series of teaming up with Marvel, including: The graphic novel adaptation of Octavia Butler’s Talent Parable (April) from John Jennings, Damien Duffy and Megascope’s David Brehm creative team is a highlight of 2025.

In short, Montagne has a fair amount of slate to direct, so there’s no doubt we’ll hear more from him in the coming months.
