Napalm Lullaby #9 Review

For many, the Matrix was awakened to what reality was. Question #9 was released this week and continues to reveal how quirky it can be if a real-life bending character has free reins. Do you even know if our past “real” lives were absolutely real? That’s a question I was pondering as Sam continues to unravel what his sister has done to unravel everything and reconstruct it.

Napalm Lullaby #9 starts with a flashback. At the very least, we need to speculate that it’s a real flashback. Napalm Larabee #8 leaves when Sam stands up to his sister Sara after discovering he lives in a false reality. The unpleasant nature of not knowing what the real thing is is that it is prevalent in this issue. This feels like writer Rick Remender is pushing forward to how Scarlet Witch perceives similar powers to what he can do in Marvel’s universe.

It may be true, but we can see Sarah and Sam Bond over Star Wars, whether the reality we are witnessing is wrong or not. In fact, Remender and Bengal connect young people to comics, and even more, they connect them to the media and perhaps our own youth. The flashbacks end organically when their father forces Sarah to take the pill, bringing us back where we left off.

Scenes that are related to otaku everywhere.

From there, the problem leaps into multiple realities, but first you can see the robot familiar from the first problem coming back to the past. The obvious circular shape at the beginning of the story is enlightening and appears to reveal a truth that makes some sense to the start. Still, it’s not enough to know exactly what’s going on here or where to go. It’s exciting and a bit frustrating. But being patient with trying new things is usually worth it.

Bengal is actively diving into this issue, especially the distorted montage of reality. Each panel becomes a different environment as Sara takes Sam through her dream idea. From cavemen fighting in broken Greece, to upside down floating castle worlds and frozen planets, Sarah’s powers are found to be infinite. The creativity of each world is exciting and interesting. The fact that Bengal ends in a Batman-style cave is even more fun. Combine the visuals with Remender’s connections with comics and pop culture. This turns out to be a celebration of comics and creativity.

Napalm Lullaby #9 continues his heart-bending story with stunning visuals and theme depth, but its ambiguity may make some readers feel drifted away. Those who enjoy amazing storytelling in reality have a lot to appreciate, but it takes patience to figure out where the story is headed perfectly.

A thought-provoking exploration of reality and awareness.

A strong emotional core through Sam and Sarah’s brotherhood bond.

Bengali artwork is excellent at creative and realistic sequences.

The plot remains somewhat unclear, leaving behind lingering questions.
