Brzrkr’s film based on Keanu Reeves Comic is a step closer to reality with Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious series), directed by Netflix’s directed by Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious series).
Mattson Tomlin (Batman 2) wrote the script. Reeves, Stephen Christy of Boom Studios, Stephen Hamel of Company Films and Ross Richie are listed as producers.
Brzrkr began his life as a Kickstarter comic published by Boom! A studio with art stories from Reeves and Matt Kindt and Ron Garney. Kickstarter raised $1.4 million, with the first issue selling over 600,000 copies, and more than 3.5 million copies sold in the entire series and collection. It also features a spin-off of the anime that has been adopted in the novel by Chinamy Bill and is planned as well as the deluxe statues. There’s already a long way to go, but no one will take a break until it’s a movie!
The story, which is said to be gritty, includes B, the Immortal Warrior, 80,000 years of journey. “The man known as B is half-half and half-demi-god, cursed and forced to be violent…even at his sanity sacrifice. But after wandering the world for centuries, BRZRKR may have finally found a shelter. The US government works to fight battles that are too violent and dangerous for others.”
For Lynn, who directed more than five fast & ferocious films, and Star Trek Beyond sounds right. He is rumoured to have been obsessed with various comic book films over the years – such as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and One Punchman – this is his actual film in his genre. There’s a good connection there as Reeves and Lin worked together on the last day of Lin’s indie film, which helped Reeves raise funds.
As mentioned before, many celebrities have started comic projects previously, but BRZRKR is far more successful and may just be the first time they’ve made a jump to the movie. That’s a big credit to how the boom handled the project…and Reeves’ commitment is also committed to it. Of course, there is still a long journey to someone proposed for you on Netflix, but the fingers are crossed.
