Bad ideas aim to provide good cartoons

Of all the indie publishers of Emerald City Comic-Con, the bad idea was outstanding because of the title’s slate. I’ve known bad ideas since I signed up for their mailing list and don’t be fooled by the title. The person in charge has good ideas for actually creating comics. The official Bad Ideas Panel featuring CEO Dinesh Shamdasani, sales rep Siena Fallon and Jonathan Wayshak have unveiled a slate with high concept titles featuring great creators.

Bad Idea’s new slate crown jewel was the death of the planet, co-authored by Derek Kolstad (John Wick, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Robert Venenditti (Superman ’78) by Tomas Giorello on Art.

A trailer with colored art laid out the story. Soldiers can guide their troops on an alien planet, destroying Superwarepons and returning home. However, the entire battalion of soldiers is being slaughtered and he is forced to complete the mission himself.

Giorello’s art looks terrible, rough and indeed grand. Shamdasani, as Eric Heisser, arriving screenwriter working on the comics, discussed how Kolstad co-written the Death of the Planet.

Venditti has two other titles of works from bad ideas. Survive with Doug Brathwaite. There, two sailors must compete to slump to the bottom of the ocean and escape the submarine ordained with Trevor Haresin.

Ordained has a John Wick-esque pitch that made me want to read it right away. The priest performs the final ritual for a man who turns out to be a member of the Irish mob. But in the cruel twist of fate, the gang survives and sends subordinates after the priest…just to find out that the priest had previously served in the army!

The bad idea is to soak your toes in fear. Wayshak is co-creating Mike Carey and Cul-De-Sac. This tells the story of a group of children who learn that their parents are vampires. However, they do not want to inherit their parents’ bloodthirsty tendencies, which does not lead to bloody pursuits.

Wayshak showed off some of his art. The best comparison I can make is a scary story telling in the darkness.

Another horror title, Habitat, comes to the shelf courtesy of Joshu Adissart (Herblinger), David Rapham (The Lost Bullet), and Bilcienkiewitz (Moon Night). The focus will be on turning the billionaire private retreat into a horror show.

Finally, two science fiction titles work. One is about someone who stops time and “relived” a part of life by Matt Kindt (Brzrkr) and Giorello. The catch is that he is still aging in real time. The second is the new edition of Eniac, the first series of Bad Idea by Kindt and Braithwaite. Fallon informed the audience that anyone who signed up for Eniac Kickstarter would receive a lithograph of the planetary death featuring Joe Quesada’s art.

However, the product is not limited to panels only. A bad idea is the geese-pon machines in the artist’s alley booth, and the color-coded mint gives visitors the opportunity to win another exclusive comic. So far, comic fans should keep an eye on future titles, as it appears that nothing bad ideas are considered but good ones.

Planet Death #0 is available anywhere the manga is on sale on April 30th, 2025.
