Jane’s passion for the project is evident when he reveals that Rican’s idea had been pervasive for over a decade. He recalls how he first tried to get the project off the ground many years ago, prompting him to break away from the typical werewolf.
“We decided to remake familiar lore to convey not only fear, but love stories, Gothic romance to its core,” he explains. The story follows a diverse group of hunters returning from Africa, stuck on an island. There, local villagers, plagued by merciless wolves, find a shelter in a castle occupied by red coats in a French-English conflict.

For Jane, building the right creative team was important. He praises Mike Carrey for his script and looks at how Carrey’s dialogue brings life.
The first outline, co-created with David James Kelly, provided the plot and character for Bare Bones, but Diego Yapur was discovered on the Heavy Metal Magazine page, lending a new perspective to visual storytelling.
Jane adds: He not only delivered incredible art, but also really set the tone we wanted. “Tim Brad Street’s contribution to cover art, born from years of friendship that began during the Marvel project, further elevates the series. For Jane, these collaborations are by no means just business. They are about working with people who are truly passionate about their skills.

The Art of Visual Storytelling
Jane emphasizes that the magic of comics lies in the seamless integration of scripts and art. “My job is to tell stories, which means working closely with the artists on every panel,” he explains.
He likens the process to filmmaking. Here, decisions like “tight close-ups” and “wide pullbacks” are made to capture the precise emotions and actions needed to drive the story. This careful orchestration ensures that each page is visually appealing and rich in detail.

One of the outstanding features of the Lycan is its enchanting cover art, performed brilliantly by Tim Brad Street. Jane recalls how her long-standing friendship with Brad Street began during the Punisher’s Marvel adaptation and evolved into a pivotal creative partnership.
“Timmie really walked through the process when I was a beginner, introduced it to other artists and showed me what great comic art should look like,” he explains. The iconic cover of Brad Street not only captures the Gothic and atmosphere of the series, but also serves as a visual gateway to a rich, detailed world of historical horror and supernatural intrigue.

Beyond its impressive visuals and dynamic action, LYCAN explores the conflicts of various worldviews. The series juxtaposes the robust independence of its international hunter bands with the disciplined order of the red coat and even the unexpected resilience of nuns refuge in the castle.

Werewolf Survival Kit
Adding a light touch, Jane reflects on what he brings if he is trapped in a castle with the werewolf overnight. With a laugh, he insisted on having a good woman on his side, and a survival kit featuring a reliable pipe with an espresso machine and cigarettes that burn his caffeine fix and a lighter to keep his ideas sharp.
He pointed out when he pressed whether guns and silver bullets were better options. Just because you saw a silver bullet stop a werewolf in the movie doesn’t make sense whether you’ve ever encountered a real werewolf.
His playful answer certainly helps to encapsulate the despair of having a chance against the werewolf, as well as the meticulous details that characterize both his storytelling and the Lycan spirit.

Despite the constant pressures of deadlines and the challenges inherent in the creative process, Jane’s enthusiasm has not been materialized. His ultimate goal is to create comics that stand proudly on both digital devices and printed shelves. This is a work that will make you wonder and captivate at first glance. “I want readers to get the book and be drawn into the art and stories right away,” he asserts.
