Last month, Aquaman returned with a new ongoing comic series. There have been no Aquaman series going on since the final volume ended in 2021. When appropriate, DC has announced Aquamanatee, a new early reader following the latest adorable aquatic aquatic adventure that will ensure that you make a splash.
Here’s how DC explains aquamanate:
Marlow, the Manatee, is not exactly a superhero material. He slept a lot, eat a lot, do lots of torts, never came out of his safe Saltwater Bay. Still, sweetly muttering Marlowe dreams of adventure, derring-do and making a difference. He dreams of being a hero like Aquaman. His Marlow is a huge fan! However, when a series of impossible events leads to Marlow having a superpower, not only meeting his hero, but also teaming up with Aquaman himself… Suddenly, Marlow makes him realize his dream I’m not sure I’m ready to do that.
Can a nasty, failed, super powerful manatee become the perfect person for this job?
This new graphic novel, as part of DC’s early reader program, ages 5-7, is courtesy of Cassandra Federman author Ben Clanton and art. Clanton is a bestselling author and illustrator of the New York Times, best known for the Narwhal and Jelly series, so this aquamanic acid project is perfectly suited to his sensibilities. Similarly, Federman has experience with Manatees, who was previously a manatee rescuer. Since becoming an author/illustrator, her published books include This Is a Sea Cow (Albert Whitman, 2019), Seahorse (2020), who won the Ila Children’s and Young Adult Book Award.
This will be the first book in the Clanton and Federman series, following the release of DC’s early reader program with Superman’s Good Guy Gang on July 1, 2025 at 5-7 years old!
