Black Lightning co-creator Tony Isabella comes out as a transgender person

The 73-year-old writer and co-creator of superheroes such as Black Lightning, Mystinight and Tigra have announced that she is a transgender woman and her new name is Jenny Blake Isabella. “I’ve always liked the name Jenny,” she explains, but “Blake comes from Dr. Don of Marvel (Aldo Blake, the original alter ego of Marvel Thor), who was once a Marvel Maniac. Always Marvel Maniac.”

What makes me happy: Being a trans person on my social media was one of the most frightening things I’ve ever done. The love and support I was shown lifted up my spirit and gave me hope. I’ll explain in detail soon. For now…thank you. 2-9-25.

She elaborates that she doesn’t consider “Tony Isabella” to be a dead name, explaining that she plans to use both. When asked by DC about a reprint of an older work, she replied. Whether to use Tony or Jenny depends on the project. For example, if you write another Black Lightning series, it makes sense on some levels, including commercials, to go with Tony. If I were to write a series starring his daughter, Jenny might be more appropriate. I haven’t decided yet which name will go to my new Trans Super-Hero series. It could be both. ”

Similarly, Isabella will be featured as Tony in her upcoming convention appearance. When you have me sign the cartoons, I will sign them as Tony Isabella unless you make another request. If you think the bank can get the first Jenny Blake Isabella sign in your book, then know that I have already signed some items as Jenny for close friends Should be. ”

She acknowledges that she came out at particularly difficult times for trans and non-binary Americans, and the second Trump administration has never been more profound in erasing them. “My transition will be expensive, especially when the Nazis who run our country continue their cruel attacks on trans people and our healthcare,” she says. “As of the moment, only my medication and treatment are paid. Others are considered cosmetics and are not covered. Certainly, due to strange complications, I’m for therapy until July. I’ll pay for therapy.”
