Author Matthew Rosenberg is launching a new comic series with a title as good as the ones that are farthest from here. We are defeating everyone. On March 26th, the new series is a mix of spice thrillers, sci-fi mystery and revenge all in one. Armed with Stefano Landini’s concise pencil, the first problem surprised me and quickly felt a new, exciting, ode to the sci-fi era.
We are the sixth miniseries following the 13-year-old Analyse. Her father is a crazy scientist and may or may not be working to make the world better. I’ll introduce you to Annalize right away. Annalize plays hide and seek with a rather advanced robot. She is very clever, but too interested in his job for a father to become a father.
Based on solicitation, the world’s biggest spy has exploded her life, and judging from this first issue, it’s a difficult business to understand how to live her life in the future.
If you’re a fan of psychological character work, you’ll love this series. Rosenberg is very good at exploring who these characters are through their interactions and subversion of truth. Annalize is not about what her dead mother or father is doing. It’s up to the reader to understand what’s actually happening, but all indications refer to malicious things.

Apart from learning who these characters are, this first issue features a robust conflict that Annalize unpacks. I won’t ruin it, but it puts serious question marks on what’s right and what’s wrong.
Sci-fi is also pretty cool. Landini depicts Annalize’s robot companions with a simple yet futuristic look. They each have different colours and have a story problem. Meanwhile, Annalize’s father’s lab is very simple and naked. It’s like a cheap TV show from the 70s, in a good way. Randini portrays Annalise’s father like the sharply dressed James Bond type, so you can see his connections with past media.
The layout is also great. Depending on the page, the pace may vary, slowing or faster. The visual ideas behind the panel layout are exciting.
If you are familiar with Letterer’s Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, please note that his Eisner Award-winning quality continues here. Annalize caption note page adds a personal touch. The robot has clear word balloons and is emphasised. The quieter speech becomes even smaller. The entire Otsmane-Elhaou’s toolbox is fully visible.
The use of the colors of Sergei Titov also helps to give the art a retro feel. Sometimes you’ll notice a colour palette from the 70s, as sturdy as the purple on the ground. We’re talking about warm oranges and light aqua blues.
If this sounds like a perfect cartoon then it’s pretty close. It has mysteries, conspiracies, and even a series of actions. If I’m unhappy about something and it’s reaching, the main thrust for the rest of the series hasn’t technically started by the end of the issue.
