Anthology problems can be a mixed bag, but DC’s Rex and City # 1 offer a fun Valentine’s Day special to balance humor and action at the heart. Eight unique stories that each have brought life by various creative teams, this issue shows various tones, art styles, and perspectives on the love of DC Universe. Not all stories are focused on romance, but even superheroes and villains explore relevant, vulnerability, and related issues.
The nominal story of “Lex and the City” by SINA GRACE sets a playful and stylish tone. When Savvy Reporter turns the table with a painful exposure, LEX LUTHOR attempts to make a gossip columnist a magnificent backfire. Grace’s sharp text is a noddy of Retro fashion reminiscent of Rex Saturday Night Fever White Suit and Mary Tai La Moha Show, and is beautifully paired with pop art visuals. Of course, it is a lively and cheeky opener that shows that Rex is intelligent and even understands difficult things.
In contrast, the “beautiful lies” by Jonathan Libera and Michael Avon Oming have become so impressive. A young couple who is unconsciously caught on both sides of Freze’s robbery will bring the RED theme to the forefront. The story is cleverly similar to the romance of Victor and Nora’s fate and the couple. OEMING’s style -style art evokes Batman’s Noir Aesthetics: Animation Series. This was a close candidate for the best story of this issue.

Anthology is the brightest and most bright, “Heart Break Lake” in Dave Wielgos and Howard Porter. It’s not the story of Valentine’s Day, but Hawkman is looking for a memory device that contains a romance echo that he might never return, and captures the lost heart pain. Almost fragmented panel work, like a porter’s dream, enhances the tone of the story and makes this story emotionally emotional. Adding NTH Metal Dragon adds a refreshing action without shaking your heart.

In a light side, Damian Wayne is looking for advice on dating from Tim Drake, so Brendan Hay and Steven Burn’s “Gossam Life and Dating” accept humor. Damian and Tim’s treks offer a lot of laughter to build the best date for a flat line. It is an attractive and low betting story that emphasizes the unusual moment of friendship and vulnerability from Damian.
Other stories of anthology have different tones and execution. “Valentine’s Day Poison Gift” is a rewritten narrator’s caption and is a fairy tale -style approach that feels fresh and fun, and is approaching “Valentine’s Gift of Poison ivy”. On the other hand, “Together again” is a nostalgic trip with Titans, and it is fun but only in contact with Valentine’s theme. The story succeeded as a slice work about the friendship of men, and has succeeded in excellent art that captures both classical Titan and modern Titan.
“Riddle Me Kiss” continues to Ridler because many of the villains of Gotham are pursuing love, but they have never found a true romantic connection. The highlight of the story is an impressive full -page secens of Riddler and Magpie, which passes through multiple floors of Arkham Asylum. “The roses are red … Blood is blowing,” Raven is approaching a supernatural humor when he tries to create a perfect boy’s perfect Valentine’s Day. The story works by a classic holiday rope by changing a romantic gesture into a magical accident, including people who blend into a huge chocolate statue or explode candy heart into a magical accident. The manga-like art style, especially the Beast Boy transforming into a variety of animals such as tiger, crocodile, and even T-REX, enhances the light confusion.
Regardless of whether you are here for love, laughing, just a good story, this anthology has something for everyone. Using highlights such as “Beautiful Lies” and “HEARTBREAK LAKE”, it is read on a valuable Valentine’s Day, which provides a strong mix of heart -felt storytelling and creative artistic. The best story is to make the most of the holiday theme and explore love in many ways -romantic, platonic, and even tragic things, others humor, action, or inside. Success by using it as a background of the ministry.
