DOOMSDAY plays a huge role in SECRET WARS

Another MCU movie, another cast member happily revealing spoilers about what’s to come. According to an interview published yesterday in Variety, “Doctor Strange” actor Benedict Cumberbatch will not appear in Marvel Studios’ latest “Avengers” movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” scheduled for release in May 2026. Confirmed. Despite playing an important role in the MCU, it is a work depicting a multiverse with the movie “MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS”, but it seems that Cumberbatch’s “Strange” will play an important role in the second half. SECRET WARS, hinted that the only reason the Master of the Mystic Arts went missing was because it was “completely inconsistent with this part of the story.”

Regarding his future with Doctor Strange, Cumberbatch said:

“They (Marvel Studios) are very open to talking about where we go next. ‘Who do we want to write and direct next?’ What part of the lore do you want to explore?’ He’s such a rich character to play. He’s a human with complex and contradictory issues, and he has extraordinary abilities, so there’s a strong element to play with. ”

According to an interview, the MCU’s plans were for Jonathan Majors, whose role as Kang the Conqueror was supposed to be the MCU’s biggest villain, to be fired in 2024 after being found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. That completely changed. This incident itself was a big reason why the MCU ended Kang’s storyline in Loki Season 2 (which, to be fair, wrapped up pretty well).

Since then, Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel Studios have significantly pivoted from their original plans. Director Destin Daniel Cretton left the film to focus on Spider-Man 4, and was replaced by the Russo brothers, who directed both Infinity War and Endgame. In addition, screenwriter Jeff Loveness was fired and replaced by screenwriter Stephen McFeely, who has worked with Russo on many MCU films in the past.

Shockingly, this is the only real update on the film so far, aside from the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning as Doctor Doom rather than Iron Man. The manga series has been promoted alongside its own crossover called ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM.
