Next month, the Moon Girl and the Evil Dinosaur anime series will return with new episodes. And did you know? It’s been 10 years since Lunella Laifatte first debuted and teamed up with Jack Kirby’s fan-favorite Devil Dinosaur. To celebrate this milestone, Marvel has announced that a special Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur 10th anniversary one-shot will be released on Wednesday, April 2nd.
This special reunites Moon Girl co-creators, writer Brandon Montclair and artist Natasha Bastos, for an entirely new story. Similarly, this one-shot features new stories by writer Justina Ireland and artist Luca Claretti, introducing the duo’s inversions, Devil Girl and Moon Dinosaur.
Official description from the press release:
It’s a birthday celebration that’s been ten years in the making, and the entire Marvel Universe is invited. But Moon Girl brings her own agenda to the party. What is her secret plan? And when the mischievous Impossible Man threatens to upend the festival, Lunella must rally guests the way only the smartest in the Marvel Universe can! MORE: WHO IS DEVIL GIRL AND MOON DINO?!
Montclair expressed great excitement to return to the character.
“Time flies when you’re having fun!” said Montclair. It was in 2015 that many talented creators joined Natacha Bustos and me to bring Moon Girl to life. It seems like only yesterday that Marvel had a new super-genius superhero—and she was only nine years old. To celebrate our 10th anniversary with this character, the two of us (and many more amazing talents) are celebrating Lunella Lafayette’s 10th birthday. Join the big party. ”
Bastos echoed similar sentiments.
“Coming back to paint Moon Girl and the Demon Dinosaur feels like coming home,” Bastos said. “This series has always been important to me. It’s amazing how this character has resonated in so many different contexts over the past decade, and so many of our adult readers are reading these new pages. It’s interesting to think that these are the same kids who grew up reading the comic book series in the first place.”
Editor Mark Paniccia added:
“Brandon and Natasha gave us and Lunella one of the best birthday stories in Marvel history!” editor Mark Paniccia promised. “And we can’t wait for readers to discover Lunella’s descendant, Devil Girl, and her laser-eyed flying blue dinosaur! You won’t want to miss this special!!”
In addition to the main cover by superstar artist Nick Bradshaw, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur 10th Anniversary Special #1 features variant covers by both Bastos and Anand Ramshron, the latter featuring Bastos’ iconic A nod to Moon Girl and the cover of Devil Dinosaur #1. Devil Girl and Moon Dino appear for the first time!
