Vault begins selling products wholesale directly to retailers

Vault Comic has announced a brand new plan.

Following Diamond Comics’ bankruptcy filing, comic book distribution has begun to become more diverse, including long-planned announcements and new plans. Depending on the latter, Image will no longer be sold through Diamond.

Now, Vault has announced a new plan to cut out the middleman and sell comics directly to retailers. This has been a plan in the works for some time, and while Vault is currently distributed by Lunar and Simon & Schuster, more small publishers have their own control over where and how stores get their comics. It will be interesting to see if they make plans for it. More fractures begin.

This retail direct program is in addition to our existing channels, and all new Vault titles will be part of the new system.

“We want to make sure we deliver our books to our fans, comic shops, and booksellers in the best way possible,” said Vault CEO Damien Wassell. We believe this is the right step for our business, our creators, and our fans, and we look forward to delivering great books directly to the retailers who have helped us build Vault.”

However, this move will result in Vault adjusting both the release date and format of future projects. This means that some existing orders will be delayed or canceled and new orders will be placed. Changes to format and release date will be announced in the coming weeks.

More details from PR:

Vault’s direct-to-retailer platform launches on February 3, with select backlist and frontlist titles available for immediate order. Additional backlist and frontlist titles will be available for order in the coming weeks.

Retailers interested in setting up a direct sales account can sign up here.

New retail accounts who sign up before February 28th will receive free shipping on all orders for the first six months. Products are provided to retailers at a discount of at least 50% off the retail price, and each order automatically receives additional discounts based on the total order cost. The base discount will then be determined by the order volume in your account and free shipping will continue on eligible orders. Packaging, shipping schedules, stockout and damage policies meet or exceed industry standards.

There have been many more developments in Diamond’s story…and rumored developments… We’ll have a full recap in tomorrow’s newsletter.
