Marvel Comics is shaking things up as Joe Kelly and artists Pepe Larraz and JR JR usher in a new era with The Amazing Spider-Man. The latest re-release of Spider-Man #1 comes with a variant cover created by acclaimed artist Simone Di Meo, who was last seen in works such as Immortal Hulk. It was also learned that DiMeo will be working on interior artwork for a large, unannounced Marvel project that will soon be revealed.
Regarding Spider-Man, DiMeo said:
“This is my first great Spider-Man cover! It’s already a great honor, but it’s even better to be part of the launch of a new work by three legendary creators who I’m also a big fan of. I’m sure Joe, Pepe and John will do a great job with this series. I’ve watched all of their work over the years, and they know how to weave the right web. I can’t wait to read it!”
He then spoke at length about his future with Marvel.
“I’m really excited to be working with Marvel again. I’m filled with pride and excitement to be working with some of the world’s most iconic characters. The project we’re building together is a dream come true. It will take a little more time to be able to talk about it, but I hope the fans will like it. The team and I are doing our best to create something unique for me. This is a new artistic challenge, but I love challenging myself!”

Writer Joe Kelly and artists Pepe Larraz and John Romita Jr. begin a new era of The Amazing Spider-Man this April. In celebration of the year’s most anticipated launch, the debut issue features a variety of covers by today’s top talent, including Eisner Award-nominated artist Simone Di Meo. The cover, depicting Spidey gracefully swinging across a skyline, is a stunning example of Di Meo’s vibrant, athletic style. The first Marvel cover in nearly five years marks DiMeo’s exciting return to the idea house following franchises such as Champion and The Immortal Hulk.
