Windbreaker’s popularity continues to grow as Kodansha accelerates its print release schedule to one issue per month.
Fans still have to wait a little while to get more frequent print runs. Windbreaker Volume 9 will be released on February 4, 2025, while the publisher plans to begin releasing monthly print editions in July 2025. Written and illustrated by Satoru Arai, “Windbreaker” depicts Haruka Sakura, an unruly high school student who attends Furin High School, which is famous for attracting dropouts and delinquents. Haruka, who is very good at fighting, has always been an outcast, but when she realizes that while there may be a lot of brawlers at school, they just want to protect their town. The situation will change completely. Haruka, who is shocked and shaken by surprise, vows to become stronger and become the best fighter. Combined with digital and print editions, Wind Breaker has sold over 1.22 million copies as of March 2022.
CloverWorks animated “Windbreaker” in April 2024. The first season was directed by Toshifumi Akai and written by Hiroshi Seko. The 13-episode season ended in June, and a second season was announced soon after. The series has also been adapted into stage plays and video games. The play will be performed in Osaka from January 1st to 3rd, and then moved to Tokyo from January 10th to 19th. The video game will be released on March 12th and will be available in Japan for iOS, Android, and PC via Steam.
