Multiple companies brought robot vacuums with mechanical arms to CES 2025

It turns out Roborock isn’t the only company to bring a robot vacuum with a mechanical arm to CES 2025. Rival company Dreame, which unveiled a stair-climbing robot vacuum earlier this week, is also working on a robot vacuum with an arm. An arm for picking up things.

The device is still a prototype, according to the company, but the as-yet-unnamed robot vacuum was on full display at Dreame’s CES booth. Considering it’s still a prototype, the actual arm seemed much sturdier than the one on Roborock’s Saros Z70. It was much thicker and had larger “claws” that appeared to be able to grab slightly heavier objects. (Roborock says its vacuum can pick up objects weighing up to 300 grams.)

Unfortunately, Dream didn’t actually appear to grab anything, but we did see the arm extend and retract several times. The prototype vacuum also appeared to be on a similar device to the X50, as it swung around on “legs,” similar to Dream’s stair-climbing X50.

A Dreame representative at the booth said the company has been working on a prototype for some time, but decided to accelerate plans for the vacuum at CES. One look and I knew exactly what he meant. Dreame’s booth was located directly across from Roborock, which had a giant replica of the Saros Z70 flexing its muscles atop its booth.

Perhaps next year we’ll see two robot vacuum arms battling it out.
