Smart lighting company Govee has announced a new product that creates a quirky new product category. Gaming Pixel Light displays static or animated pixel art set to an 8-bit soundtrack. You can also view weather forecasts, sports schedules, and Bitcoin prices on the retro display. But it wouldn’t be a CES 2025 gizmo without some AI packed inside. So you won’t be surprised to learn that its companion app lets you generate AI pixel art from text prompts.
As the product name suggests, the Gaming Pixel Light is marketed as a (desktop or wall-mounted) lighting companion for gamers. But it might work for someone who wants a groovy atmosphere or a fun conversation piece in their home. The light has over 150 preset scenes, and you can also create your own scenes manually or using the app’s AI chatbot. You can also control it with Alexa or Google Assistant.

It can be used for static or animated pixel art, and it supports image and GIF uploads, giving you more options to play with. Animations run at 30fps, and you can build or edit your own multi-layered animations within the app. Govee claims that the app’s creation tools are easy to use, but we haven’t tried it yet.
It has a built-in speaker that allows you to sync the lights to the rhythm of an 8-bit soundtrack. And if you’re willing to toss an extra $240 (wow) on Govee’s HDMI sync box, the company says the Gaming Pixel Light will sync with your game’s visuals in real time.
Gaming Pixel Light is expected to launch in Q2 2025. Govee’s press materials don’t mention pricing, but the company’s CES 2025 website says it will be available soon for $100.

Also on display at CES is a crossover collaboration with JBL: (deep breath) “Table Lamp 2 Pro x Sound by JBL.” This speaker synchronizes a curved lighting surface to your music. This is a feature found in many other products as well. There are 16 different music modes, ranging from lively party lighting to “calming soothing effects for relaxing moments.” The speaker and light hybrid has 240 independently controlled LED beads and over 100 preset scenes. Similar to the Pixel Light, you can go the DIY route if you’re interested.
JBL’s Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro x Sound is expected to be available in late Q2 2025. There is no pricing information for this model yet.
