Microsoft is spending $80 billion on data centers this year

Microsoft has published a lengthy article discussing its vision for artificial intelligence development over the next four years under the incoming Trump administration. In the article, the company revealed that it is investing a total of $80 billion in AI-enabled data centers in 2025. Microsoft said it is building data centers so it can train and deploy AI models and power its cloud. based application. That’s the entire budget for projects around the world, but more than half of it will go toward building data centers in the United States.

The company explained that none of the AI advances the industry has made to date would be possible “without new partnerships based on significant infrastructure investments.” The group is now calling on the incoming Trump administration to increase government support for AI advances in the United States, including providing more research funding to the National Science Foundation and U.S. universities.

Microsoft acknowledged in the article that it knows that AI will “disrupt the economy and eliminate some jobs,” but also that it “creates new opportunities that will outweigh many of the challenges ahead.” There is growing confidence that this will happen,” he said. The key, Microsoft explained, is to train people to use AI as a work tool, much like Americans use smartphones and laptops today. Finally, he said the third key priority for 2025 is promoting U.S. AI exports. The United States needs a smart strategy, as there is a race between the United States and China to spread their technology to other countries, a race in which “the earliest one wins.”
