MSI also announces 27-inch 4K QD-OLED gaming monitor at CES 2025

When Samsung unveiled the world’s first 27-inch 4K gaming OLED monitor on Thursday, Engadget’s Igor Bonifacic predicted that other vendors would soon follow suit. (Samsung is also the largest supplier of OLED gaming monitor panels, after all.) Sure enough, MSI is showing this off on the same day at CES 2025 with two monitors in the familiar specs of a 27-inch 4K QD-OLED display and a 27-inch I followed the example. It’s a QD-OLED with a super smooth 500Hz refresh rate.

First up is the 27-inch 4K QD-OLED. Perfectly marketed as MPG 272URX QD-OLED. (Of course!) MSI differentiates the monitor by being the first to combine the panel with DisplayPort 2.1a, which can offer a better combination of resolution and frame rate. Like its Samsung counterpart (G81SF), it should display sharply at 166 PPI with a 240Hz refresh rate.

MSI says the panel “significantly reduces color smearing,” which should help reduce text sharpness that is common with QD-OLED screens. As my colleague Igor points out, this could be the ideal all-purpose monitor for gaming, working, and anything else.

Smooth gameplay is probably not a concern as it supports NVIDIA’s G-SYNC technology. MPG 272URX QD-OLED also won the CES 2025 Innovation Award.

The 27-inch QHD QD-OLED model also has a catchy and memorable name: MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50. (Yes!) MSI is marketing this monitor to “every mainstream gamer out there,” which is likely due to its lower resolution (2,560 x 1,440). It also uses DisplayPort 2.1a, and (like Samsung) has a gray-to-gray pixel response time of 0.03ms. It’s VESA ClearMR 21000 certified, so motion blur won’t be an issue when you enjoy an incredible 500Hz refresh rate.

MSI has not yet released pricing or release date information for either model.
