Telegram has introduced a new third-party account verification system as part of its latest app update, the company announced in a blog post. The idea is that celebrities and companies that are already verified by Telegram can now also be verified by others, such as employees within their organization. “This decentralized platform for additional verification helps prevent fraud and reduce misinformation with a unique proactive solution that sets new safety standards on social platforms,” Telegram wrote. .
Individuals or groups who want to be able to authenticate others must already have an official bot authenticated by Telegram. Once that is done, you can apply to become a third-party verifier on Telegram. It is also required to have a unique icon (a simple, minimalist icon with a single color) that appears next to the name of the account being authenticated.
Accounts verified in this way will have the logo next to their name, and when you open their profile you will see a detailed explanation of their status and what it means. The company emphasized that this type of verification is “completely separate” from internal verification and provided further details in the guide.
Telegram has also introduced a new search filter that allows you to narrow down the list of results only from private chats, group chats, or channels. We also added custom emojis for folder names, service message reactions, and the ability to upgrade gifts to NFTs.
The company also announced that it reached profitability for the first time thanks to monetization features such as premium subscriptions, advertising, and Telegram Stars. But not everything has been rosy for the company lately. Last August, the chat app’s founder, Pavel Durov, was arrested on charges that the company did not take sufficient measures to prevent illegal activities on the app.
