In this fifth issue of the recently restarted series, the Turtles don’t appear anywhere (but only briefly). Instead, it depicts a new character’s rise to power and the danger he poses to the city and its inhabitants. , humans and mutants alike.
Also, Casey Jones does his thing, confronts a new bully, and finds himself in some serious trouble.
This was a very interesting issue and I was impressed by how his bigotry and ruthlessness were on full display and the new threat was steadily built. There are some truly shocking moments here. When the new prosecutor begins the story, you may have some sympathy, but by the time you reach the jaw-dropping cliffhanger of the final page, you’re definitely not on his side. Probably.
Jason Aaron has been building a very interesting story, and after the brothers were finally reunited in the last issue, it looks like this time they will face a serious threat. The great Darick Robertson is the penciler, and his style, which includes short, sharp, impactful gore shots, is perfect for this particular issue.
So here’s another highly recommended issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The series concludes its 40th anniversary year with, in my opinion, some of the best comics of all time to bear the TMNT brand.
