Samsung’s One UI 7 operating system is finally available to the public, albeit in beta. The updated UI focuses on security and privacy, which is never a bad thing in today’s world.
Further integration with the company’s Knox Matrix security protocol began appearing on Samsung devices in 2023. Knox Matrix continuously monitors your device via a “secure private blockchain” and displays all connected gadgets on your dashboard.
This dashboard allows users to instantly check the security status of various Samsung smart devices, including other Galaxy devices, tablets, TVs, and home appliances. If your device appears green on your dashboard, it means it’s up to date and has no detected risks. If something is at risk, the Knox Matrix provides actionable recommendations. All Samsung devices will soon come under the One UI umbrella, which should make this integration even more seamless.

New security measures have also been introduced to recover data from the cloud. Enhanced data protection ensures all connected devices are synchronized and secure, allowing users to have a backup plan in case of data loss. To that end, One UI 7 lets users check their previous device credentials to sign in to a new device.
One UI 7 lets you create and use passkeys to log into your Samsung account, giving you more control over your network connections. In the latter respect, you can block less secure 2G services and prevent your phone from automatically connecting to unknown networks.
Text messages and photos have also been given a bit of a harsh rating to improve security. Users can remove location data from photos and block hyperlinks from text messages. You can also block automatic downloads of shared photo albums and attachments. Users can block USB connections for added security. The port will still work for charging, but not for anything else.

Finally, a new anti-theft tool has arrived. Samsung devices may already be remotely locked, but now they’ve added a feature called ID Check. This opt-in software forces users to prove their identity if their PIN is compromised.
The new UI features a simplified design, broader availability of AI tools, and a redesigned camera app. The full release will also include something called Now Bar, a new notification system that Samsung promises will “transform the lock screen experience.” This is very similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island and Live activity features. Samsung’s Now Bar isn’t included in the beta, so you’ll have to wait a little longer to get it.
The One UI 7 beta program is currently available for Galaxy S24 series devices in various countries including the United States, Germany, India, South Korea, and Poland. Users must apply through the Samsung Members program. The full version of UI 7 will be released during the first quarter of 2025.
