Matt Bose and Fred Harper’s AHOY Comics reboot, The Toxic Avenger, continues with issue #3 (of five) next Wednesday, December 11th. We’re excited to share an exclusive 6-page preview of the next chapter. An emotional journey down memory lane brings us back to the action of today, when the title character wasn’t a horribly deformed mutant superhero.

The hit reinvention of the classic movie/animated series continues! Following the devastating Tromaville chemical spill, the company responsible deploys a private army of Armored Radiation Rangers to violently deal with the PR damage. Until Toxie reveals the soldiers’ terrible secret!
Toxic Avenger #3 will be released with a variant cover by Bors and Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Wet Moon). Check them out below, along with a bagged copy of Harper’s main cover, which comes with an exclusive trading card by Ben Clarkson (co-creator of Bors’ Justice Warriors). The price is $3.99, but if you purchase it with a trading card, it will be sold for an additional $1 for $4.99.
The Toxic Avenger is, of course, based on the cult-favorite 1990s film series, which tells the story of Melvin Feld, a nerdy janitor who transforms into a monstrous mutant after falling into toxic waste. It was a parody of heroes (a common trope in pop culture in the 1990s and late 80s). Gaining superhuman powers, he becomes Tromaville’s unlikely hero, fighting corruption, crime, and environmental pollution with his often absurd antics and heart of gold.
The film was produced by Lloyd Kaufman’s TROMA Studios, an independent film studio that served as an early training ground for many famous directors, including Eli Roth and Oliver Stone. In fact, James Gunn had early experience as a filmmaker writing Tromeo and Juliet, and Matt Parker and Trey Parker (creators of South Park and The Book of Mormon) also worked on indie films. He wrote the screenplay for the masterpiece “Cannibal the Musical”.
Now, let’s take a look at the variations and interior previews.
