Sony has announced that it will be beta testing cloud streaming on its PlayStation Portal mobile game console. The feature begins rolling out in today’s update and is expected to launch in Europe on Wednesday. Only PlayStation Plus premium members will have access to cloud streaming during beta testing, but it’s a positive sign that Sony is finally working on the feature, even though it took a year to get to this point. Adding cloud gaming to the portal addresses one of the big criticisms of this handheld in our review: it didn’t seem to have a clear target audience.
More than 120 titles from the PS5 Plus games catalog will be available for beta testing. This includes a variety of games such as Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and more. PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 games will not be supported during the beta period, but those games may be added as the feature becomes more widely available.
Portal owners may also want to know that this update adds some tweaks to audio and volume controls. But let’s be honest, what’s really important is cloud gaming.
