Just when you think you’ll find some sympathy for Starscream, the sniveling, snarky, ambitious Decepticon, he lets it all out once again.
Last issue gave us a ton of insight into why Starscream became the vile Decepticon he is now. It was truly heartbreaking to see the fall of the once peaceful Transformers who saw the beauty and wonder of the universe.
After being left for dead by fellow Decepticon Soundwave, his “rescue” in issue 14 sees him reluctantly paired with the character of GI Joe. And while it’s dark humor what they do to Starscream to get him moving again, Starscream’s behavior quickly deteriorates again.
So far this has been a pretty great series. G1 (Gen 1, for the uninitiated) G1 Joe not only modernizes and updates the Transformers storyline, but also in a way that feels much more organic than, say, fellow Energon Universe title Void Rivals. I’m combining it with Saga. Quality has changed since its release.
I really dig the new twists on old stories that Daniel Warren Johnson has given us loyal fans, but when the license moved from IDW to Skybound, our I think a lot of people were worried about the series. Apparently, there was no need to worry. The Transformers series is safe and secure.
