This machine is considered to be the best laptop for most people and also the best laptop for college students. Amazon sells this notebook with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for $899, which is $200 off the list price.
This is the basic storage capacity, but other configurations with more storage capacity are also available. A model with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD is available for $989, but we recommend having at least 16 GB of memory. You can’t upgrade the RAM on your Apple Silicon MacBook, but you can always add external storage if you need it.

Apple just released its first M4-powered Mac, but the MacBook Air doesn’t yet have the latest chip. The 13-inch MBA’s combination of power and portability makes it a strong choice, and we gave it a 90 in our review. It offers fast performance and has a great display. The design is sleek and sturdy, and the sound is great thanks to the quad speaker array. I also like the trackpad and keyboard, but upgrading to Wi-Fi 6E connectivity is definitely a plus.
Our main question is that the USB-C port is on the same side as the one for the charger. It would be nice to have at least one USB-C on the right side. But that’s a minor gripe on an otherwise great laptop.
If you want a slightly older (but no less powerful) processor, the M2 MacBook Air with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is reduced to $749, which is $250 off the regular price.
