Welcome to another edition of the Fantastic Five, where we shout out the best comics of the week! This week features a new creative team for The Amazing Spider-Man, two new #1s, and more! Let’s go to the books!

Best comics of the week: November 14, 2024

#5: Power Rangers Prime #1

Power Rangers Prime #1 offers a truly unique take on the Power Rangers universe in the vein of Ultimate Spider-Man and Absolute Superman. Whether you’re a long-time Power Rangers fan or a newbie, you should check out this comic – and given a surprise appearance from another group of ’90s characters, Flores and Yg rock the Rangers We aim to push the limits in terms of ‘the world.

#4: GI Joe #1

In many ways, this feels like Hasbro’s Real American Heroes doing what the Absolute or Ultimate lines do for DC and Marvel characters, respectively. This GI Joe gives us the heroes we recognize (and some new faces), with the bright and colorful features of the toy’s beginnings, but at the same time, there’s much more to the world around them. Framing them in a darkened world. I’ve been finding it harder than ever to believe in heroes lately, but I’m glad to see the Joes back in great fighting shape.

#3: Absolute Batman #2

Absolute Batman #2 happily abides by the “law of cool” and feels like a museum exhibit with newer, bigger, cooler things popping up around every corner with every turn of the page. Unfortunately, the creative twists on Batman’s iconography that propel him to the greatest heights necessarily come with a lot of new characterization and fresh relationship drama not seen in his other appearances. That’s not true. At least not yet. However, for beginners, it’s easy to buy this and you’ll be hooked on Batman comics in no time.

#2: Precious metal #6

Additionally, this is an ending that will stay with me for a while. It served me not only as something to ponder (and to reread in the future), but also to enhance my understanding of myself, my relationships, and the world around me. If memories are the building blocks of life, then precious metals are important now and forever.

#1: Amazing Spider-Man #61

This is a great opening issue for the story arc because the art is fun and matches the fun vibe of the dialogue and pacing. The Amazing Spider-Man #61 is an exhilarating, action-packed ride that incorporates both the humor and high-stakes drama of the Spider-Man that fans love. Joe Kelly’s witty, fast-paced dialogue lets Spider-Man’s personality shine through, providing levity even as he faces a new wave of supernatural threats.
