I know what you’re trying to say: “reMarkables is not an e-reader!” and I completely agree with that. It may have an e-paper display, but it’s definitely not a real e-book reader. I’m just a big idiot. That said, you can actually load DRM-free ePub files onto the slate using the company’s in-house transfer app.
All reMarkables support this format, and you can also modify and highlight text that is transferred to cloud-based storage. If you’re elbow-deep in a textbook and need to take notes quickly, it makes plenty of sense to use one of these. Plus, if you’re taking a long-haul flight, you might choose the extra screen space over a smaller Kindle.
Plus, if you’re buying this product for its potential as an e-reader, you might as well enjoy its actual purpose: writing without distractions. As I mentioned in my review, Type Folio is almost a must-have if you really want to be more productive, but it’s worth it. — Daniel Cooper, Senior Reporter
