Los Angeles, November 13, 2024 – In 1974, filmmaker, author, mime, and poet Alejandro Jodorowsky created a film by Frank Frank in Paris, with the help of concept art and storyboards from internationally acclaimed artist Möbius. I was working on a film adaptation of Herbert’s novel Dune. Alongside talents like HR Giger and Dan O’Bannon. At the same time, Möbius, along with fellow rebellious Bande Dessinée creators Jean-Pierre Dionnet and Philippe Drouillet, pushed the boundaries of the medium of comics, creating mature, intelligent, and I often wanted to tell exciting stories. Metal Hurlant is their brainchild, a cutting-edge comics anthology published under their newly founded publishing house, Les Humanoides Associés (Humanoids). The magazine took the sci-fi world by storm, and was the inspiration for future generations of artists, including filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro, George Lucas, Hayao Miyazaki, Ridley Scott, Denis Villeneuve, Taika Waititi, and Jemaine Clement. It created a ripple that became a catalyst for creation. Nicolas Winding Refn and musicians such as Air, Daft Punk and Hans Zimmer. Jodorowsky’s Dune never materialized, but he and Möbius created the groundbreaking series Incal within the pages of Metal Harland. The series later became the best-selling science fiction comic of all time, and is now being adapted for the big screen by Taika. Waititi.
